Geometry with Origami!
Hello, Geogenius! đ
Did you know that when you fold paper, youâre doing geometry?
Today weâre going to explore shapes, angles, lines of symmetry, and fractions using a beautiful Japanese art form: Origami!
Youâll Need:
-
A square piece of paper (any size and color)
-
Your hands
-
A flat surface
-
Patience and curiosity!
Warm-Up Fold: The Symmetry Test
-
Fold your square in half (side to side).
Youâve made a line of symmetry! -
Open it. Now fold it corner to corner.
Another line of symmetry! -
Open again. Can you see how many lines of symmetry your square has?
Try folding along different lines to find more!
Letâs Make an Origami Fox Head!
As you fold, ask yourself:
-
What shapes appear?
-
How many angles can you name?
-
Can you fold it so both sides match? (Thatâs symmetry)
-
What fractions of the square are you folding each time?
Origami helps us âseeâ geometry by folding, flipping, and creating.
Youâre not just learning shapes, youâre building them with your hands!
