Moving Shapes: Transformations!
Hello, Geogenius!
Today we’re learning about geometric transformations. That means we move shapes in different ways (like flipping, sliding, or turning them)
What Is a Transformation?
A transformation is a way to change the position or direction of a shape. The shape stays the same size and form, we just move it!
Here are the 3 main types:
1. Translation (Slide)
The shape moves from one place to another.
It doesn’t turn or flip, just slides.
Example: A triangle slides 3 steps to the right.
2. Rotation (Turn)
The shape turns around a point.
It can turn quarter, half, or full circle.
Example: A square rotates 90 degrees.
3. Reflection (Flip)
The shape flips over a line, like a mirror.
The left becomes right, and right becomes left!
Example: A heart shape reflected across a line looks like a mirror image.
Try This at Home!
Cut out a paper shape.
Slide it (translation).
Turn it (rotation).
Flip it over (reflection).
You just did all 3 transformations!
Now, here are some videos to learn more about transformations!
