Learning to measure the Area!

Hello Geogenius!

Last week, we learned all about perimeter (how to find the distance around a shape).
This week, we’re going one step further! We’re going to learn about something just as cool, the area!

Are you ready to discover what area is, how to find it, and do some fun activities? Let’s go!

🌟 What Is Area?

The area is the space inside a shape.
Imagine you’re putting tiles on the floor or painting a wall. The area tells you how much space you need to cover!

You can find the area by using special formulas for different shapes.

📐 How to Find the Area

Let’s look at a few shapes and learn how to find their area:

Square
All four sides are the same.
Area = side × side
Or Area = side²

Rectangle

Has two long sides and two short sides.
Area = base× width

Triangle
This shape has 3 sides.
Area = (base × height) ÷ 2

🧠 Let’s Try It Together!

Here’s a quick challenge:
Find the area of a rectangle that is 7 cm long and 3 cm wide.

Answer
Area = 7cm × 3cm = 21 cm²

Remember: Area is always in square units! (like cm² or m²)

🎉 Fun Area Activities

Let’s make learning area extra fun!

🏠 Design a Room
Draw a room and write the area of each part: the bed, the rug, the table!

📏 Measure and Compare
Use a ruler to measure your books, notebooks, or tablet. Find the area of each one and see which one is the biggest!

✅ A  Tip:

Don’t forget the units!
If your answer is in meters, say:
Area = 30 m²
